I created a couple of “Mikko’s best years of games” geeklists in 2020 and 2021. I remembered those lists yesterday and created an update – this is an easy list to create, so it didn’t take me more than a few minutes to create the new list.
You can see the whole list in BoardGameGeek.
Here’s the comment track:
- 2015 and 2016 stay at the top. Both got more points, but their difference remains the same. 2015 is the year of Dale of Merchants and Monikers; 2016 is A Feast for Odin, Great Western Trail, Tyrants of the Underdark and Flamme Rouge.
- 2017 makes a big leap to the third place due to a change in the method. I believe I’ve excluded expansions before; now, I didn’t think of that. The top of the list remains the same (Altiplano, Nusfjord), but it was the year of Unlock! and Exit, and many of those probably didn’t count before. 2018 and 2019 were also boosted by several Unlock sets.
- 2009 now has Hansa Teutonica, but it also has a bunch of Age of Steam expansions.
- In recent years, 2020 has developed nicely and doubled its score. New games in the highlight list include Beyond the Sun, Anno 1800, Lost Ruins of Arnak and Dune: Imperium. Not a bad year! 2021 has Ark Nova and Oath, and the last place on the list is 2023 with Forest Shuffle and Horseless Carriage.
- 2022 is a weaker year; it has some games with potential (First Rat, Hitster, All Roads, Akropolis) but no big, good games. Looking at the top titles from BGG, the first two pages have very little that would interest me.
