Qin, Coup, Dominion: Dark Ages
Nice game session yesterday. I had to leave early so my wife could go visit some neighbours – in what turned out to be an Amway sales attempt. Ugh. Fortunately I got to start early, too, and got a good batch of games: Glory to Rome, twice with a newbie. I think I prefer more…

Recent games
Some notes on recent games. First some new games I’ve tried. Schatz der Drachen (Knizia / Winning Moves) is a nice twist on a memory game. Works well and I enjoyed it. My son didn’t enjoy it quite as much, though. Excape (Knizia / Filosofia) is a horrible, frustrating game. It’s a simple die game…

Gaming year 2008
So, how was the year? Pretty wild, if you ask me. (See Gaming Year 2007.) Good new games (2007-2008 games) Dominion — Well, I played 28 games of this, and most of them outside BrettSpielWelt. That’s a pretty nice number, considering how late this game arrived. Everybody likes it, or at least doesn’t mind playing…

Hot games for Q2/2008
Continuing from the previous round… Glory to Rome takes the spot as the hottest game of the quarter, by far: it has double the hotness points the second game on the list has. And why not? It’s new and it’s very, very good. I’ve played four games, once each with two, three, four and five…

Thursday session: Glory to Rome, Preference, Tarock
Our Thursday session was on Monday this week. That’s summer for you… I would prefer a fixed date, but sure, it’s pretty hard to fix when people have fluctuating schedules. I started games with a two-player game of Glory to Rome. I’ve now played with two, three, four and five players — that’s fairly rare!…

Thursday session: Glory to Rome, Schnapsen
I got a chance to play two more games of Glory to Rome today. It’s a great game, especially as I won both games… Well, that’s definitely not hard against newbies, and Mari, the only other player with experience, didn’t repeat her excellent performance from the last time. The buildings are fun. In the first…

Thursday session: Modern Art, Glory to Rome
Yesterday’s games started with a three-player Modern Art with Petri and Hannu. This was our first game with the new Finnish edition. It’s gorgeous, and I’m glad to report it works well. Pretty much the only problem is the small size of the screens: they tip over and can’t cover a huge pile of money.…

Chris Farrell is back!
One of my favourite bloggers, Chris Farrell, is back! His new blog is called Illuminating Games. His insights on Glory to Rome are interesting, especially considering I just bought the game (I’m hoping to play it next Thursday, we’ll see).
