The evolving nature of the web and the declining number of contributions has threatened to render our magazine irrelevant and that’s not something that I’m willing to accept.”
Too bad Greg felt this way. The arrival of the new Games Journal issue was something I was looking forward to every month. However, I can see why this happened — the journal was getting quite thin recently, with only few articles in each issue. All these new-fangled blogs are sucking the creative writers — I guess many blog entries might’ve been Games Journal articles before.
Still, it’s a shame — The Games Journal was a well-edited and always interesting to read. Blogs tend to be more hit-and-miss and BoardGameGeek is has a horrible signal-to-noise ratio. I know I’ll miss The Games Journal.
Fortunately the archives remain open. It’s a great collection of interesting articles about our hobby.

I completely agree, Mikko. I always looked forward to a new edition of the Games Journal at the beginning of each month. I thoroughly enjoyed contributing to it and reading it. Many thanks to Frank and (especially) Greg for keeping up this labor of love for lo these many years. It will be missed.
I am also disappointed that it stopped. I told the staff at The Games Journal repeatedly their game reviews are the best anywhere on the web. The clarity in writing, creative assessment, and choice pictures set a standard for enjoyable reading. We can only hope that another website with equal dedication to quality will soon come along.
I don’t believe the genre thriving and meaningful websites evolving at the same time are a coincidence. We can thank Greg for his contribution to boardgaming.
