Unlock! Game Adventures

Unlock! Game Adventures

I was two Unlock! games behind. Fortunately, both of the sets are available in the local library. The first one to arrive was the later one; this one had fewer reservations. Unlock! Game Adventures uses other Asmodee titles as source material. There are scenarios for Ticket to Ride, Mysterium and Pandemic.

It’s a pretty good box, with one decent scenario and two good scenarios.

Ticket to Ride doesn’t have much of a theme, and the story here doesn’t really feel like Ticket to Ride. It’s about railroad business and train travel, which makes it fine. It has a nice gimmick, using the phone camera in a fun way. Solid fun, nothing too difficult – we finished this one in about 30 minutes.

Mysterium, on the other hand, is a great match for Unlock!. It’s a mystery game, after all. The goal here is the same as in the original game. Someone’s dead, and the players must find out who killed them, where and with which weapon. This is a fun problem, with mostly clever and funny puzzles. We finished this one in 50 minutes.

Pandemic is a big one. There are three diseases spreading in the world, needing a cure. This scenario gives players 70 minutes time and indeed, there’s a lot to do here. It took us 56 minutes to finish the scenario, and we enjoyed it a lot. It’s one of the best Unlock! scenarios in our opinion.

Overall, this is an entertaining set of scenarios. The game themes work rather well, at least excluding Ticket to Ride – but everybody knows the Ticket to Ride theme makes no sense (actually, I bet most people don’t even know what the actual back story of Ticket to Ride is!).
