Impulsive shopping — Hive and Looping Louie
Got some games, on a whim. Despite my cool initial feelings towards Hive, I couldn’t resist the new bakelite edition. Just too cool, you can’t beat big, chunky pieces of plastic when it comes to board game pieces. I also bought the new edition of Looping Louie. I’m not sure if I would’ve bought it…

Boardgame club meeting: Fifth Avenue, Finstere Flure
The first boardgame club meeting this Fall was yesterday. It sure was great to get some gaming action going on. We had a decent showing, with about two tables going on most of the time. First game I played was Fifth Avenue. It was much better than the last time. This time even the scoring…

Board game club meeting: San Juan, Media Mogul, Haggle
We had a quiet afternoon of games yesterday. I started with San Juan. I played a quick three-player game (around 15 minutes, I think) with Robert and Olli. I had a very good game, once again with Prefecture-Library-City Hall set. This time I also used Chapel to gain extra four points. I won Robert with…

Finstere Flure
I wrote a a review of Finstere Flure. Finstere Flure is a very good game. The escape from the monster-infested dungeon of Fürst Fieso is simple, but exciting fun for two to seven players — and what’s best, the game really works with the whole range! The best number of players is, however, four to…

Lahti games weekend, Friday
Another Lahti gaming weekend is over now. Organised by Peter Munter of Puolenkuun Pelit, the event is rather merry occasion. The participants were all-male invite-only group of friends and friends of friends. The average age of the players is probably a tad higher than what I’m used to and there’s a certain bloke mentality involved.…

Board Game Club: Finstere Flure, Pirate’s Cove, Wo ist Jack the Ripper
The University club met for the first time this year on Sunday. The attendance was pretty good (I think there were 16 of us, we had three tables most of the time) and the session was very pleasant in general. The first game I played was Finstere Flure, which made it’s debut now. We had…

Christmas games
I’ve been playing some games with Johanna during the holidays. I wanted to introduce Attika to Johanna. I thought she might like it, the whole constructive attitude of the game. In the other hand, I thought it might be a bit too complicated. It turned out well. We both played a good game (I suspect…

Games keep coming in
Last Friday I got my copies of Finstere Flure and Attika. I already played Finstere Flure with Johanna. It supports two players officially, but I thought it’d be more interesting if we both played two teams. It was good, light fun and Johanna seemed to enjoy it (though she lost; had she won the game,…

Few games coming my way
I ordered Attika and Finstere Flure today (from Spielenet, I got an offer to join an order so large there are no shipping costs). Attika was a must-buy, while deciding over FF took a while. It’s cool theme and neat mechanics combined with a reasonably low price made the decision quite easy in the end.

HelCon II — Saturday
Saturday was the first day of HelCon II. We got up early, packed the car and headed towards the location. Which was quite nice, really! For once the space was open and had windows and even the bathrooms were quite clean. Of course, there was the limitation that all gaming must end before the alarm…
